Jakarta – The Ministry of Defense (Kemenhan) is preparing a reserve component army in 2021. At least 35 battalions of reserve soldiers are required specifically for the 18-35 year criteria.
“35 battalions (needed) and adjusted to the needs of the TNI later,” said the spokesman for the Indonesian Defense Minister, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, when asked for confirmation, Friday (12/3/2021).
Danil said that not all Indonesian citizens could become the reserve component soldiers . He said that at least an age requirement of 18 to 35 years is required to become a reserve component soldier.
“The age requirement is only to be 18 to 35 years old and pass the selection later,” he said.
Furthermore, Dahnil ensured that the TNI would still be a major component of Indonesia’s defense. According to him, the reserve components to be formed will also be voluntary.
“Yes, administrative requirements, opportunities, etc. will be selected. The main component is the TNI and what will be formed later is the reserve component, the comcad is voluntary,” said Dahnil.
Previously it was reported that the Komcad selection had been regulated in Government Regulation No. 3 of 2021 concerning the Development of State Defense Awareness (PKBN) to Reserve Components, and was signed by President Joko Widodo.
“Every citizen aged 18-35 years, with any background that meets the requirements can voluntarily register to become a member of the Komcad,” said the Ministry of Defense Information and Documentation Management Officer (PPID) in its official website, Wednesday (3/2/2021).
Even though it has been regulated in the PP, the Ministry of Defense explained, not all Indonesian citizens are required to participate in the reserve component selection (Komcad) so that the Reserve Component selection is a right for those who wish to voluntarily participate.
“The reserve component is not mandatory for the military. The reserve component is one of the voluntary (not mandatory) programs mandated by Law No. 23 of 2019 on National Resource Management for State Defense,” explained the Ministry of Defense on its official website
